Day 4 — Model Context Protocol (MCP)
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard for connecting AI applications to external systems, networks and databases.
MCP fixes two key limitations of LLMs
- The knowledge base of LLMs is frozen at the time of their training.
- They can't interact with the outside world. This means they can't access real-time data or perform actions like booking a meeting or updating a customer record.
Standardising the protocol for connecting to LLMs makes it easier for existing products to integrate AI into their features. MCP is the reason why all your favourite apps suddenly have an AI chatbot that can do anything you need.
Tomorrow is Day 5: we will go into building an MCP server and/or MCP client.
